Handle With Care is a conservation mural project from street art duo SNIK. Working with Zoo New England it explores the fragile relationship between humanity and the natural world.
Aiming to raise awareness of the conservation work that Zoo New England does. SNIK have produced a range of artworks using hand-cut and multi-layered stencils. As ever with their work, each piece is painstakingly produced.

Endangered
Throughout the two-week installation, SNIK used hand-cut multi layered stencils and spray paint to produce the murals. They were then painted onto the outside of the Tropical Forest Building at Franklin Park Zoo. The murals feature critically endangered species cared for by the zoo.

Murals at the Zoo
Murals created include a western lowland gorilla, clouded leopard, a black and white-ruffed lemur, and a Panamanian golden frog. All are species with compelling conservation stories. Each animal having their own conservation preservation programme which is led by Zoo New England.

Conservation
“Conservation and education are the cornerstones of our mission” said Zoo New England President, John Linehan. “These new murals are another way to connect our visitors to the incredible biodiversity of our planet. By providing opportunities for people to more deeply understand the natural world and all of its inhabitants”.

Bigger Picture
“Our modern-day, single-use society rarely allows time for reflection on our role within the natural world” said SNIK. “Looking from a macro level to see the bigger picture is hugely important to the animals we share a planet with”. Adding that “human health cannot be separated from that of the ecosystems on which we depend”.

SNIK are an art duo from England known for their large scale stencil artworks. The ‘Handle with Care’ Project with Zoo New England saw murals created on the Tropical Forest Building in Franklin Park Zoo during April and May 2024.
