Artists Transform Cheltenham Car Parks for Paint Festival

Artists have transformed two town centre car parks as part of the 2023 Cheltenham Paint Festival. The North Place car park and the Town Centre East multi-story have seen an influx of artists over the weekend of the event.

Fully accessible for anyone who wants to see the work it was an opportunity to get up close and personal with artists as they create their work. Coming from a range of different backgrounds the Paint Festival mixed street artists with graffiti writers, illustrators and fine artists. All coming together to create a range of new pieces.

The North Place car park has been a regular location for the festival over the years. Cheltenham residents have got used to the art here been regularly refreshed. The Town Centre East car park however has only just been introduced. Here a more free flowing series of artworks have been completed. The side of the car park too has seen two large scale murals created from Australian artists Sophi Odling and Krimsone.

North Place Car Park Street Art

A popular spot, the North Place car park has been at the heart of the Cheltenham Paint Festival since it began in 2017. Taking place on wooden boards which surround the car park the work here is temporary and often refreshed. This year all existing artworks were covered over and approx 40 artists visited to give the entire area a fresh covering of street art.

Town Centre East Artworks

The multi-storey Town Centre East car park has certainly had to face accusations of feeling tired and unloved in the past. Not known for being an inviting location it’s hoped that the street art will give the space a renewed energy.

Grosvenor Terrace

On the side of the Town Centre East car park runs Grosvenor Terrace. In addition to the more free flowing work inside, the outside has seen the painting of two new high quality murals. From Australian artists Sophi Odling and Krimsone they are huge and a real addition to Cheltenham’s impressive mural collection.
