Soon 130 artists will descend on Cheltenham to paint, sculpt and spray the town between the 5th and 8th September. It’s the third time the festival will have been held in the town. Louise Nyland from the Cheltenham Paint Festival gives the lowdown on what to expect.
Live Street Art – from 7-8 September 2019
The painting begins on the 5th September with many of the artists painting on the 7th and 8th. This year we have a large number of female artists, including Zabou, Georgie and Lisa Seaurchin to name a few proving that street art isn’t just for the boys. Our headliners are travelling from far and wide, including WD Wild Drawing who will be painting in the UK for the very first time.

Drawing the Lines Screening – 6 September 2019
To kick start this year’s proceedings, the Cheltenham Paint Festival team will be presenting an event at Chapel Arts. On the 6th September we will be screening ‘Drawing the Line: The Bristol Influence’, a showing of the 1989 BBC documentary which reflects the approach to aerosol art by both artists and the authorities at the time. The screening will be followed by a panel discussion with John Nation, Inkie, Felix ‘FLX’ Braun and Turroe. We’re lucky to have such an illustrious panel to kick off this years Festival. This event will be held at Chapel Arts, Knapp Road, Cheltenham on the 6th September at 7.30. Tickets are £10 and are available here.

Drawing the Lines Exhibition – 28 August to 14 September 2019
Chapel Arts will also host a second event during this year’s festival. An exhibition which will bring together the brightest names who are fast building their reputations and our Headline artist Inkie. The exhibition will run between the 28th August and 14th September. The exhibition will run in association with Asylum Artist Management.
Street Art and Cheltenham Literature Festival
On the walls of Cheltenham we will see some artists painting to a theme for the very first time. ‘Hurrah for Books’ is a tie in with the Cheltenham Literature Festival which is celebrating its 70th Anniversary this year. A competition will also be running from the 8th September to 13th October. For the artist who is voted to have created the best book themed piece will get a supply of art books and for the one lucky visitor, to Cheltenham Paint Festival or Cheltenham Literature Festival, whose name will be picked out of the hat, a selection of art goodies from Cheltenham Paint Festival.
We are extremely excited to bring you the Cheltenham Paint Festival in 2019 this year promises to be our biggest and best yet. Pick up a map from one of our volunteers over the weekend of the 7th and 8th of September and enjoy the festival.
