Lucas Levitan seeks to bring his Instagram Invasions to a bookshelf near you with an exciting Kickstarter campaign
“Sometimes it’s good to dream high” says Lucas Levitan as he tells me about his latest ambition to bring his hugely popular photo invasions to the public at large.
Raising money via Kickstarter to publish a book about his photo invasion adventures, it’s already been a popular campaign which so far has raised enough funds to publish. The real dream though is to do it in hardback and for this he needs to raise more money, £20,000 in fact.
Levitan is a popular artist, invading Instagram he has become the opposite of a scourge on the network. Nicking people’s photos only to repost with a brilliantly imaginative twist he has created a world in which his characters play in the lives of the real people of Instagram. It’s got to the point now where people ask him to invade their photo stream with people often delighted when he does.
We’ve spoken to Lucas before here on Inspiring City. We first noticed him at a pop up show outside Shoreditch High Street station in 2014 before featuring him in an exclusive interview earlier this year. Since then he’s come on in the world, not only has he continued to develop his Instagram invaders but he’s even tried his hand at a little bit of street art.
It’s the book that’s the big project though, £20k is a fair old sum but worth it if the resultant outcome is a picture-book of some of his most famous creations. Needless to say the Kickstarter page has a number of highly compelling rewards so it’s worth going there to have a look.
Not content with that, Levitan has also produced an app which means that the invasion can also now take place in the comfort of your own phone. Produced by HeyHey Apps it allows whoever downloads it to invade the snapshots from the persons own phone. Alas it doesn’t seem to be available on windows phones (because what app is?) so it’s not something I’ve tried myself.
There’s no doubting that Lucas Levitan is genuinely one of the most fun artists around, goodness knows what goes on in his head but whatever it is, I think we probably all need a bit of it. His Kickstarter campaign runs until Monday 26 October 2015 and is worth checking out. His website meanwhile can be found here, and of course his Instagram page is here. Happy invading.
