Dubel Art Prize
Nominated as one of nine finalists for the Dubel Art Prize. It is on the back of this achievement that we are discussing her work now. The work that we are now looking at was originally shown in Fitzroy’s prestigious Kimpton Hotel. Exhibiting there as part of a solo exhibition before being shown at Home Grown.

Background
Vane MG’s artistic background is rooted in industrial design and toy design. Working initially in the field in Colombia she would later move to practice and settle in the UK. Now very much a full time artist, these roots can be fully appreciated in her artworks. Playing around with concepts of childhood memories but also anime and street art influences.

Born in Pink
Central to many of the works is the colour pink. It plays a central role in her art. The latest series really celebrates that colour whilst also bringing in other multiple styles. It’s also something that carries a personal significance. “My mom used to call me Vanessita Rosa, and our house was decorated with pink sofas,” Vane recalls.

Creaturas
The “Born in Pink” collection features a series of intricate paintings. Many incorporate natural elements such as leaves and floral motifs sourced from her own garden. These organic shapes are integrated into what she terms “Creaturas” – unique shape-based representations that explore her artistic vision.

From Colombia to the UK
Vane’s artistic journey began in Colombia and was significantly shaped by London’s street art scene, which she discovered in 2016. The street art community provided her with a platform for artistic exploration and the finding of a community. Her signature “heart eye” motif, originally a form of face painting, soon become a symbol of her own artistic identity.

Transformation and Identity
The collection includes detailed self-portraits that explore themes of transformation, childhood, and personal identity. Each piece is meticulously constructed with multiple layers, inviting viewers to discover new details through prolonged observation. The portraits themselves revealing more of Vane’s versatility as an artist.

Vane MG’s work blends her Colombian background, professional design experience, and own artistic vision. Her approach reflects a unique perspective that combines her roots, London’s artistic energy, and a deeply personal narrative. Through her paintings, Vane MG invites viewers into a world that is at once personal and universal.
Vane MG was interviewed at Home Grown on 9 July 2025. Her ‘Born in Pink’ collection was first exhibited at the Kimpton Hotel prior to moving to Home Grown. She is one of the finalists for the 2025 Dubel Art Prize.
