Giant Denis Law Murals Appear in Aberdeen

Two giant murals of football icon Denis Law have appeared in Aberdeen. They sit high on the side of a housing block in Clifton Court, just off Printfield Walk. One shows him playing for Manchester United, the other for Scotland. Both are based on photographs from the time.

The murals were painted by Australian-born street artist Jerome Davenport, also known as Ketones6000. They form a key part of the Denis Law Legacy Trail. A walking route which celebrates Law’s life, career and Aberdonian roots.

From Local Streets to Global Fame

Just a short walk away is 6 Printfield Terrace, the house where Denis Law was born. These streets were his first football pitch. Often playing barefoot and with a rag ball. They were formative years and that childhood home now marks the official start of the trail.

Winding through the area where Law grew up. Visitors can follow the trail to understand the community that shaped him. It’s a journey through Aberdeen’s working-class past, told through the story of one of the city’s most famous son’s.

Portraits of Pride and Passion

The Denis Law murals are striking and bold. One shows Law in his red Manchester United shirt, his arm raised in celebration. The other captures him in navy blue, proudly representing Scotland. Each portrait is a tribute to his legacy for both club and country.

“These murals are a tribute to a footballing great and a source of inspiration for the community” said Jerome Davenport. The challenge was to capture Denis’s spirit. Not just as a footballer but as someone who represents the heart and history of this city. Seeing it all come together has been incredibly rewarding”.

A Lasting Legacy in Public Art

The project was commissioned by the Denis Law Legacy Trust working with the Printfield Community Forum. Organisations both working to preserve Law’s legacy in his hometown. The murals give that work an important and clear focus.

“For me it’s about honouring him as a local person” said Margaret England the former chair of the community forum. “Letting others know that just because you come from a certain area doesn’t mean you can’t do anything you want”.
