The Bull, a mural by Portuguese artist Nuno Miles, has been recognized as one of the top murals in the world for 2024. Ranking 5th in Street Art Cities’ global annual competition it is a remarkable anamorphic work. It can be found in the small Portuguese village of Alfaiates.
A Masterpiece in Alfaiates
Alfaiates is a small village near the Spanish-Portuguese border. It is a place known for its cultural heritage and deep-rooted links related to the bullfighting world. Painted in July 2024, The Bull remembers this tradition. It captures the strength, resilience, and spirit of a borderland people.

The Mural
The mural is a hyper-realistic depiction of a powerful black bull. Painted on the side of a house, the details are astonishing. Standing in what appears to be the interior of a barn it has one leg slightly lifted. It is looking out into the world, perhaps getting ready to leap out of the wall. The perspective and use of the building creating a three-dimensional illusion.

The Artist’s Vision
Nuno Miles, is an artist known for his hyper-realistic style. Self-taught since childhood, he has refined his artistic voice over the years. Blending technical mastery with bold storytelling. Speaking on social media about the artwork, he described it as a tribute to the people of the border region. Saying:
“The people of the border are like this majestic bull: imposing, strong, and indomitable! A mural that gave me great pleasure to create. Not only because it was done in my hometown, but also because of the scale of the challenge. I would like to thank the Alfaiates Parish Council for their trust and creative freedom.”

Global Recognition
As an artwork it is technically outstanding. Making use of perspective and the built surroundings to create its anamorphic illusion. But it also tells a story, paying tribute to both tradition and to a people. It’s more than just street art. It’s a piece of Alfaiates’ identity, woven into the fabric of the town itself.
