A short walk from the Chalk Farm tube station in Camden is the Ferdinand Estate, to be fair an unlikely candidate to be a hub for street art, but a place where nonetheless there is some pretty impressive stuff to see.
Part of a collaboration between street art fixers Global Street Art and Camden Council, the estate has become an unlikely canvas for some of the country’s leading street artists with random pieces of art dotted liberally around the place.
Not all of it is accessible. Much of the estate is secured and you need a keyfob to get in, but much of it can be seen and can be accessed easily. Pieces from the likes of Mexican artist Said Dokins and Germany’s Sokar Uno mix with work from local favourites ATM, Hannah Adamaszek and Fankapan to create a unique blend of artworks.
The initiative in the Ferdinand Estate is another example of where well curated street art can help to enhance an area with residents, the local council and the artists all involved in the curation of the work.
Camden is of course of London’s street art hubs. Walk between Camden Town and Chalk Farm tube stations and you are going to be hard pushed to miss street art from a whole host of artists and what’s more it changes all the time thanks to the likes of ‘The Real Art of Street Art’ and ‘Global Street Art’ who will arrange the spots and the artists.
And the council seem pretty happy with the works too with the cabinet member for housing at the council , Pat Callaghan, saying “We’re always happy to see these sorts of ideas come to fruition as they help create clean, safe and pleasant environments on our estates, and reflect the creativity Camden Town and its environs are famous for.”
The street art of the Ferdinand Estate is just a short walk from Chalk Farm tube station and can be found by taking the Chalk Farm Road towards Camden and then turning left along Ferdinand Street, it’s only a few minutes walk from there. So pleased to see you covered the estate so well and named all the artists.. A couple there that had me stumped when I was there just over a week ago! Most of these are a little off track but a pleasure to see without the crowds that descend on the more well known spots of Camden. There are a couple of more pieces you may have missed or not featured, but all the goodies are here for you viewers to enjoy!!! Excellent post indeed….
