So 2014 has been a busy year for Inspiring City and as you would expect we’ve taken a lot of photographs. In fact we’ve probably taken too many, the majority of the pictures that are taken don’t get anywhere near the blog or even the instagram feed.
And that’s a shame because there’s some that I really like and I think they tell a story. All have been taken with my trusty Nokia 1020 and where edited, they have all been done in camera. The pictures are numbered for ease but that doesn’t indicate ranking, I like them all. So here you go, I hope you enjoy some my favourite snaps of the year 🙂
1. The Calm before the storm in the Leake Street Tunnel
The famous Leake Street tunnel, home of Femme Fierce. This picture has come to symbolise the event in some way, it shows the calm before the storm when over 100 female street artists turned the tunnel into a riot of colour
2. Zina goes blue for Femme Fierce
Norwegian artist Zina painting in the Leake Street tunnel, her trademark is that she paints blue hued portraits and this was no exception for Femme Fierce
3. Kef’s shed in Camden Market
Kef’s shed in Camden Market was brilliant yellow and striking. It was just one of many sheds to be painted and supported by ‘The Real Art of Street Art’ over the year
4. Ben Wilson creates chewing gum art on the Millenium Bridge
Ben Wilson created hundreds of little pieces of chewing gum art on the millenium bridge.
5. Save Gaza tag in Hackney Wick
During the Hackney Wick festival this year a number of revellers were also turning up dressed in 50’s garb to see the ‘Back to see Future’ with Secret Cinema. I like the juxtaposition with the ‘Save Gaza’ tag which has been popping up all over the place
6. Airborne Mark gets busy at the Whitecross Street Party
As part of the Whitecross Street Party Airborne Mark was in typically dynamic action. Possibly one to the most expressive street artists to watch whilst painting
7. Wrist eyes up a passer by
Loads of artists got together for the Meeting of Styles festival including Wrist who painted this masterpiece which looks to me like it’s taking a cheeky glance at this passer by
8. Zina art and a bike at the Meeting of Styles
Zina again and also at the Meeting of Styles festival. I was lucky to catch this cyclist passing by especially as his shoes are blue
9. Amara paints the Village Underground
Amara Por Dios painted the biggest wall of her career. This shot was taken on the evening of the second day
10. Kef puts on a show at the Genesis
Kef painted the walls of the Genesis Cinema in a show curated by ourselves and our friends at Dutch Girl in London. He’d only just started when I took this pic
11. Hannah Adamaszek paints more of her piercing eyes
Hannah Adamaszek painting at this years Whitecross Street Party. Her work is great to photograph, the eyes just draw you in
12. Nils Westergard selfie makes a new friend
American artist Nils Westergard painted this little selfie of him on Hanbury. I was visiting with the Little Observationist when we spotted this delightful scene
13. AR and Boxhead use the force in preparation for their show
AR and Boxhead put on a collaboration show at the Well Hung gallery and this cool piece was placed on Leonard Street
14. John Dolan’s sketches of his dog George fills up the Howard Griffin
A customer admires the art from John Dolan on the Howard Girffin gallery. The gallery put on a number of experiental shows during 2014
15. Karis Knight paints on Leake Street for Kickstarter
Karis Knight took part in the filming for a Kickstarter video on Leake Street and I loved the way this came out
16. Sweet Toof does what he does best
Sweet Toof is well known around the East end and was the first to discover this abandoned building
17. Rugman puts on a show at the Ben Oakley Gallery
Rugman put on an impressive show at the Ben Oakley gallery and I loved this pic taken through the window on the opening night
18. Thieu paints a giant green lizard
Stephanie Thieu was very active during 2014 and I love this picture of her in action
19. Paste ups from Sr. A take over Brick Lane
These paste ups appeared all over the Brick lane area earlier this year from Sr. A
20. Girl getting down at the Meeting of Styles
My favourite image from the Meeting of Styles festival was a girl dancing next to the giant wall which was painted by multiple artists
