‘Urban and Iconic’ Exhibition under the Hoxton Arches in London

The Urban and Iconic show held between 5th and 10th September under the Hoxton Arches always promised to be a good one given the list of quality artists on display.

The likes of Otto Shade, Pins, Cityzen Kane, Pegasus, Tank Petrol and Mr Cenz were on display alongside a number of other artists whose work I’d not yet come across such as Max Zorn and his remarkable images made out of masking tape.

I was lucky enough to be shown around the show by Zabou, herself a friend of this very blog and also an artist on display. I’d not met up with Zabou since interviewing her a couple of months ago. She’s been busy, popping over to Croatia to paint a mural over there before returning to the day job as a graphic designer and preparing for shows like this one.

The Hoxton Arches themselves, opposite Hoxton Station, are the perfect setting for a pop-up show such as this. Spacious and light, they have the extra atmosphere generated by the dome shaped interior and restored brickwork from what would no doubt have been storage areas or workshops for the railway back in the day. Outside in the yard is another treat, murals from Sweet Toof, RUN and Stik were a real suprise to see especially considering the quality of them all, packed as they are in a tiny yard at the back.

So below a few shots from the show, shame it didn’t run for longer.

Cityzen kane produces lots of alien type creatures and tends to stick them to walls. They don't last long and you can see why, the quality and detail is remarkable
