Over the past few days London has held it’s open house weekend. One of a number of cities to host the open house, London this year offered a whole range of different and unusual places to visit.
Now I absolutely love the idea of open house and believe that this is a great way of building community relations. With this in mind i decided to volunteer. The job I had was to go round some of the venues and speak to some of the people visiting in order to get feedback. Needless to say it was a good gig with everyone saying what a great experience it was. The good thing for me is that I got to visit loads of different and unusual places.
Some of the places I visited included a windmill and a barn in Upminster, a converted granary and an abbey in Barking, a tudor manor house in the middle of a housing estate in Eastbury, Valance House in Dagenham and one of the biggest sewerage works in Europe in Beckton (who hadn’t taken part before and gave a two hour tour which was fantastic). All were great and showed off London in a tremendous light. It’s a shame open house is only once a year but at least it happens and when it does, it does it really well.
